Subject: Re: [Peace Update] Allahabad Judgment- Joint Appeal by Leading Religious Leaders for Wisdom and Peace
To: peace-update+owners@googlegroups.com
I really welcome this initiative. I endorse the same.
Dear Friends
The impending Allahabad High Court judgment regarding the Babri Masjid- Ram Janambhoomi has every one worried about the possibility of the instigation of discontent and violence in the aftermath. Given the fact that this issue has been used many times in the past by politicians and vested interests to whip up orgies of violence all over the country the concerns are not baseless.
Recognising the possibility of instigation of communal violence by some vested interests and dangers to the life and property of innocent people, spread of disaffection between communities, damage to the country's economy and damage to the image of the nation internationally, some leading religious leaders of national importance from different parts of the country have issued a Joint Appeal that is appended below.
We request you to circulate this widely and also, if possible, send / fax this to the newspapers in your city with request for publication in national interest.

Mazher Hussain

Allahabad Judgment: Joint Appeal for Wisdom and Peace
By Religions Leaders
Press Release
We welcome and fully endorse the appeals by leaders of different religions, political parties and social groups to respect the Judgment of the Allahabad High Court in the matter of Ram Janam Bhoomi- Babri Masjid issue. If there are any reservations about the Judgment, there could always be recourse to the Supreme Court but no one should resort to spreading any disaffection between communities or use of violence in any form in the interest of the country and humanity. We must recognize that the world is looking at our nation as an emerging super power and any internal conflict and discord between us will not only affect our economic progress but also severely dent our standing and image in the international arena. .
All our religions and spiritual persuasions teach about the sacredness of life and law (Dharma) and the importance of unity and mutual respect for general well being and progress. No religion permits violence or terrorism. It should be understood that some devious elements misuse religions to instigate riots and engage in terrorist activities to divide communities for political reasons. We appeal to people not to fall prey to such machinations and develop disaffection or engage in violence against entire communities because of the misguided actions of a handful of anti-social elements. This will not only be against the very basic tenets of humanity but also work against national interest by disturbing peace and damaging the economy and progress of our country.
We pray to the Almighty to instill the values of love, wisdom and mutual respect amongst all our citizens and bless our nation with unity, peace and prosperity.
