ParliamentAfter a three-day adjournment following the death of former President APJ Abdul Kalam, Lok Sabha, on Friday, resumed with Speaker Sumitra Mahan trying her best to run the House amid constant sloganeering by the Opposition.
Soon after Mahajan's initial remarks when the House assembled at 11 am, CongressMPs raised placards in protest, demanding that Prime Minister Narendra Modimake a statement in the House over his External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj's role in the controversy surrounding ex-IPL chief Lalit Modi.
"Again and again I am telling you, put the placards down… I will have to name you… this is against the rules," Mahajan said, seeking to curb the protests, but to no avail.
Here are some live updates from Parliament:
Facing an almost two-week washout, the government went ahead with the proceedings responding to questions raised in the Question Hour.
In Rajya Sabha, Congress MP Anand Sharma demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi must respond "to our demands," to which BJP MP and Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said the government was willing to debate anything provided the Opposition maintains order.
Earlier in the day, the BJP government held an all-party meeting seeking to end the logjam but the Congress refused to attend it.
