I would condemn any animal sacrifice in the name of GOD. This is something not acceptable. This is not Dharma. The word Dharma does not define that way. This is not humanity. This not peace and prosperity. This is not compassion. One of the most hatred social order that is still existing in twenty first century. Nepal will not prosper. Nepal is turning into a failing nation. No national and foreign will appreciate this. Shame !

GRIEVANCES OF BUDDHISTS BY UNWARRANTED ACTS OF HINDU FUNDAMENTALISTS

This is to inform Nepalese, foreigners and people of all faiths that bloody animal sacrifices are taking place in Swayambhu Hill of Ward No. 15, Kathmandu Metropolitan City. Swayambhu is not only a World Heritage Site but also a place of worship by all Buddhists. It is a known fact that Buddhists are non-violence and in their prayers they mention also alleviation of suffering of all living beings including animals and insects. Meanwhile our Hindu brethrens carry out barbaric acts of animal slaughtering around MANJUSHREE Temple, Swayambhu Hill. If this sort of practice goes on unabated with or without the presence of shocked western tourists, then it will only succeed in creating a rift between the Buddhists and the Hindus. It is an undisputed fact that this particular World Heritage Site being sacred to all Buddhists needs its sanctity be protected. This can be possible by sensible people of all faiths and by active participating of His Majesty's Government of Nepal. Law should be imposed and animal sacrifices should be strictly prohibited in the entire area of Swayambhu and its perimeters. The government of a previous regime permitted the installation of Lord Bhairav, a Hindu idol in Swayambhu area. Lord Bhairav, a non-Buddhist deity, sits adjacent to Lord Ganesh on the northern boundary wall of MANJUSHREE Temple.
Also I wish to bring to the attention of my readers the issue of the Mound of Manjushree Hillock and simple Stupa dedicated to MAHA-MANJUSHREE, the "God of Knowledge." The total Mound takes the relevant shape of a cosmic Bajra or a Dorjee or a Thunderbolt. Every year now a Hindu festival of Shree Panchami or Basanta Panchami that heralds the advent of merry spring takes place on this mound. This Hindu festival has eclipsed the annual Buddhist festival of MANJUSHREE MELA. The Hindu zealots have succeeded till today in presenting this Buddhist deity of Manjushree as Sarashwati. Manjushree is not a Hindu deity at all. The fact has to be straightened and the general public known about the evil intentions of some Hindu fundamentalists. The government has encouraged Hindu fundamentalists to encroach into the Buddhist sanctuary and bring into Hindu values and build Hindu deities or temples around.
I appeal to the Buddhists of Nepal and the entire world as well as the international community to fight for our rights. It is important that every citizen of this country regardless of their beliefs or ideologies know that mistakes have been committed with a political blessing. It is a fact that the Buddhists of Nepal have been robbed of their heritage. Today the sacred Buddhist hill is tainted with blood to a newly installed Hindu God and our Buddhist festival is downed in fervent Vedic chanting by pig-tailed dhoti-clad Brahmins.
Let this letter serve as a wake-up call to the bureaucrats of this country. Let us pray that there be no feud between the deprived Buddhists and the haughty Hindu lords with their provocative attitudes. Thank you.

I agree and ditto your sentiments. Killing is not Dharma, but against it. I wonder if a few leaders go and talk with the people doing sacrifice about it. They should not do sacrifice at all. If not, at least not in Swoyambhu area.
It is really a matter of ignorance. Otherwise, there is no sacrifice in any of our Dharmas. In comparison, Judaism or Islam requires animal sacrifices. In Christianity, Jesus himself was supposed to be sacrificed.
Thanks, Tilak
