Nepal Updates: 22 parties burn copies of four-party pact

2 parties burn copies of four-party pact

The agitating Mohan Baidya-led CPN-Maoist and 21 other smaller parties on Friday burnt copies of the 11-point agreement signed by the four major political forces that led to the formation of the interim election government under the leadership of Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi.

The leaders and a few hundred cadres of the fringe parties gathered at Shanti Batika, Ratnapark, in Kathmandu and burnt the copies of the agreement. CPN-Maoist vice chairman CP Gajurel set fire to a copy of the agreement as the protesting crowd clapped.

There was minor clash between the agitators and the police during the protest.

The 22 minor parties have opposed the agreement to form the CJ-led government with Baidya's party terming it an outcome of foreign intervention while others are saying that the sitting CJ cannot head the government.
