Protests Turn Deadly, 20 Shot Dead In Single DayThe massive use of force against the protesters fuelled further anger across length and breadth of the state with people in thousands coming out of their homes in defiance of curfew and joining the protests. The day began with violence in Ajas, Bandipur where a small protest demonstration taken out against the desecration of holy Qur'an was fired upon by the government forces. One villager, Nisar Ahmad Bhat, was killed on the spot and three others were injured. As the news spread thousands of people began pouring out in the streets defying curfew and clashing with the police and CRPF. In Tangmarg government forces opened fire after furious protesters chanting anti-US and Anti-India slogans took to roads. According to KNS the procession was raked with gunfire and 12 persons fell to the ground with bullet injuries. Two of them died instantly while many more were critically injured and rushed to hospitals. At least 40 people were injured in police action in Shopian. One person, Rafiq Ahmad Teli, was killed in CRPF a firing at Chanakhan in Sopore.
