Breaking: U.S. to establish new military base in Anbar Province and send 400 additional American military advisers to Iraq - officials | 09 June 2015 | In a major shift of strategy [sic] in Iraq, the Obama administration is planning to establish a new military base in Anbar Province and send hundreds of additional American military trainers to help Iraqi forces retake the city of Ramadi and repel the Islamic State [aka I-CIA-SIS]. Although a final decision by the White House has yet to be announced, the plan follows months of behind-the-scenes debate about what strategy the American-led coalition should pursue in Iraq...The plans call for an expanded American presence at Taqaddum, an Iraqi base near the town of Habbaniya, the center of Iraq military's operations in Anbar Province. Officials said about 400 advisers could be sent to Iraq.
Texas Police Officer Eric Casebolt Resigns in Wake of Pool Video | 09 June 2015 | The police officer who was videotaped slamming a teen girl to the ground and raising his gun towards others during a fight at a Texas pool has resigned, sources tell ABC News. Cpl. Eric Casebolt's resignation comes a day after hundreds of protesters marched near the pool in McKinney where the incident took place last weekend. The release of the video prompted national outcry after there were allegations that race played a factor in the way that the white officer treated the African-American teens.
Israel built, exploded 'dirty bombs' in nuclear tests - report -- Israel has what is widely considered to be an extensive nuclear weapons program that it has never declared | 08 June 1015 | Israel built and exploded so-called "dirty bombs," explosives laced with nuclear material, to examine how such explosions would affect the country if it were to be attacked by the crude radioactive weapons, the Haaretz daily newspaper reportedMonday. The Haaretz report, which included photographs, said the project conducted 20 detonations with explosives laced with a radioactive substance. Mini-drones measured radiation levels and sensors logged the force of the explosions, Haaretz reported.
US Army Website Down After Hacking Attack | 08 June 1015 | The US Army has said its website was hacked by a group calling itself the Syrian Electronic Army. The Army briefly took down the website on Monday after hackers took it over and began posting messages. One of the messages read: "Your commanders admit they are training the people they have sent you to die fighting." The post appeared to be in reference to the United States' effort to train "moderate" Syrian rebels [aka I-CIA-SIS] who are fighting President Bashar al Assad's forces.
Islamic State attacks government office on western fringe of Baghdad | 09 June 2015 | Three militants disguised in military uniform killed at least eight people in a local government office in Amiriyat al-Falluja in western Iraq on Tuesday, in an attack claimed by Islamic State. One of the attackers blew himself up inside the building, and the other two were shot dead before managing to detonate their explosive vests, according to deputy district council chairman Falih al-Issawi. A further 17 people were wounded in the attack, including the head of the council, Shakir al-Issawi, who leapt from the window of his office after the explosion, a police source said.
Iran's 34th naval fleet docks at Muscat port in Oman | 09 June 2015 | The Iranian Navy's 34th naval fleet has docked at Muscat port in Oman as the Islamic Republic seeks to expand its presence in the high seas. The flotilla, comprising Alborz destroyer and Bushehr logistic vessel, arrived at the port on Monday after conducting a 60-day mission in the Indian Ocean, Sea of Oman and the Gulf of Aden. The naval fleet had left Iran's southern port city of Bandar Abbas on April 8 for the Gulf of Aden and Bab al-Mandab Strait to protect Iran's interests in free waters. [It's about time!]
White House press room evacuated following bomb threat | 09 June 2015 | The White House press room was evacuated midway through a daily briefing for reporters on Tuesday after secret service agents took the unusual step of interrupting the press secretary, Josh Earnest, to warn of a bomb threat. An agent dramatically announced on live television: "We need to evacuate the press room." The event followed a "telephonic bomb threat" to Washington DC police which forced a sweep of the room by agents with dogs but did not lead to other parts of the White House being evacuated. Approximately half an hour later, the all-clear was sounded by the secret service who allowed the briefing to resume.
Threats close parts of White House, Capitol Hill | 09 June 2015 | A series of security threats closed portions of the White House and Capitol Hill on Tuesday. In the middle of White House press secretary Josh Earnest's daily briefing, officials told all repeaters to evacuate the briefing room. The North Lawn of the White House was also cleared. The Secret Service said a bomb threat had been called in to the DC Metropolitan Police Department targeting the briefing room specifically. The evacuation at the White House came just hours after U.S. Capitol Police received a bomb threat that forced the evacuation of a hearing on the TSA in the Dirksen Senate office building.
FBI behind mysterious surveillance aircraft over US cities | 02 June 2015 | Scores of low-flying planes circling American cities are part of a civilian air force operated by the FBI and obscured behind fictitious companies, The Associated Press has learned. The AP traced at least 50 aircraft back to the FBI, and identified more than 100 flights in 11 states over a 30-day period since late April, orbiting both major cities and rural areas. At least 115 planes, including 90 Cessna aircraft, were mentioned in a federal budget document from 2009.
TSA Fails to ID 73 Airport Employees With Links to Terrorism| 08 June 2015 | A new Department of Homeland Security Inspector General report found that the Transportation Security Administration failed to identify 73 aviation employees with active clearance badges with links to terrorism. The people, who were employed by major airlines, airport vendors and other employers, were not identified because TSA is not authorized to receive all terrorism-related information under current inter-agency policies, the report said.
Newtown police chief, who oversaw department's response to Sandy Hook shooting, to retire --The department has come under some criticism for not immediately entering the school when officers first arrived and the [alleged] shooter, Adam Lanza, was still firing his Bushmaster weapon [which the media reported was found on the car seat and never actually used in the shooting/drill until they went with a different version of the story]. | 03 June 2015 | Newtown Police Chief Michael Kehoe, who was in charge of the department's response to the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, announcedTuesday night that he intends to retire after nearly 37 years on the force. In a short letter to the Police Commission, Kehoe did not mention the Dec. 14 shooting that left 26 dead, including 20 first graders. Kehoe, who has been chief for 14 years. said he will be retiring as of Jan. 6, 2016. The police commission accepted his retirement letter Tuesday night but did not announce a timetable for finding a replacement.
Former U.S. House Speaker Hastert pleads not guilty to federal charges | 09 June 2015 | Former U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Dennis Hastert pleaded not guilty in a packed Chicago courtroom on Tuesday to federal charges of trying to hide large cash transactions and lying to the FBI about it. Law enforcement officials have said Hastert was using the money to try to cover up sexual abuse of a male decades ago when the former Republican congressman worked as a high school wrestling coach and teacher, according to media reports. Hastert's attorneys, Thomas Green and John Gallo, entered the plea on his behalf in a brief arraignment hearing before Judge Thomas Durkin in Chicago's federal courthouse.
'Judge' in Hastert hush money case donated to ex-speaker's campaign | 02 June 2015 | Former U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert is set to make his first court appearance in his hush-money case on Thursday, when he is expected to enter a plea before a federal 'judge' who previously donated 1,500 to the then-Illinois congressman's re-election campaign. The arraignment for Hastert, a Republican who was once second in line to the U.S. presidency, comes a week after a grand jury indictment alleged he agreed to pay 3.5 million to ensure someone from the Illinois town where he taught and coached stayed quiet about "prior misconduct" by Hastert. The office of U.S. District Judge Thomas M. Durkin confirmed the arraignment date, then told The Associated Press later Monday that Durkin could not comment on any aspect of the case, including whether he might recuse himself.
Texas policeman resigns after video shows him toppling teen | 09 June 2015 | A Dallas-area policeman seen in a viral video tossing a bathing suit-clad teenage girl to the ground has resigned from the McKinney Police force, the city's police chief said on Tuesday, calling the officer's actions indefensible. McKinney Police Corporal Eric Casebolt, who is white, had been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation of how he appeared to target black youths at the disturbance on Friday in the city about 30 miles (50 km) north of Dallas, an incident that has raised fresh questions about racial bias in U.S. policing. "He came into the call out of control and as the video shows was out of control during the incident," McKinney Police Chief Greg Conley told a news conference.
Firing of Officer Urged After Pool Party Fracas in McKinney, Texas | 08 June 2015 | Religious and civic leaders on Mondaycalled for officials in McKinney, Tex., to fire the police officer seen in a video throwing a 14-year-old girl in a swimsuit to the ground and pointing his gun at other teenagers after a disturbance at a pool party. Speaking at a news conference in front of police headquarters, the leaders also urged the Department of Justice to investigate whether the incident, which occurred Friday in west McKinney, was racially motivated. "We are demanding that the officer be fired and be charged with assaulting the youth," Dominique R. Alexander, the president of the Next General Action Network, based in nearby Grand Prairie, said.
