Police case against former CPM MP, 4 others in TMC man's killing

Baruipur (WB), Jun 26 (PTI): Police have registered a case against Sujan Chakraborty, a former Communist Party of India (Marxist) member of Parliament, and four Left workers in connection with the killing of a Trinamool Congress panchayat poll candidate here on Wednesday.

A CPI(M) worker identified as Dinabandhu Sapui has been arrested in connection with the killing of Shibram Naskar by some unidentified men in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district, police said.

Naskar was returning home after campaigning when a gang attacked him with sharp weapons.

He succumbed to his injuries at the local hospital, the police said.

Chakraborty said he had been "falsely implicated" in the case.

"After failing to implicate me in the Saradha chitfund scam, the state government has brought a false case against me in this murder. They don't know what they are doing," he said.

State Commerce and Industry Minister Partha Chatterjee visited Naskar's house and alleged that the CPI(M) had indulged in "politics of murder".

Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim and Kolkata Mayor Sobhan Chatterjee accompanied the body when it was taken to Naskar's house on Thursday after the post mortem.
