"Britain, US make Mid-East unstable"

The UK Prime Minister has admitted that Britain played a direct role in destabilizing the Middle East region by supporting dictators who suppress their own people.

David Cameron conceded to his country's support for despots in the region while he was addressing the Kuwaiti Parliament on Tuesday on the second leg of his tour of the Middle East region where he was paying a visit along with the heads of eight giant British weapons manufacturing companies.

The Prime Minister said that popular uprisings now flaring across the Middle East showed that the West, Britain and the US in particular, had been wrong to support dictators and oppressive regimes that suppress human rights.

"History is sweeping through your neighborhood," he said.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad
Amid a fresh wave of violent crackdown on revolution in Libya, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has urged Libyan ruler Muammar Gaddafi to meet public demand.

President Ahmadinejad addressed leaders of countries who replied the popular revolutions "with a bullet" and said, "I highly recommend leaders of these countries to let their people express their words and that they should follow public views," IRNA reported Wednesday.

He expressed the world's outrage at "bad behavior of the Libyan government towards the people" and added, "All should yield to demands of their own nation. Otherwise, the outcome is already clear."

At least three Muslim countries joined a call for the UN's premier human rights body to hold an urgent probe into the violence by Libyan security forces against peaceful protesters.

Overthrow of Libya's regime won't look like Egypt or Tunisia

The 'betrayal' reflected by the demonstrations cannot end with a dialogue or quiet transfer of power, because the Libyan regime is the leader himself.

The alarming numbers of people killed and wounded in Libya so far - more than 400 fatalities and thousands wounded - tell only one part of the story.

Unlike the presidents of Tunisia, Egypt and Yemen, Muammar Gadhafi, the longest-serving ruler in the Middle East, is shooting demonstrators and even using his small air force against them.

Demonstrators have been shot in other Arab states as well, but in Libya the shooting reflects the worldview of the "brother, leader and commander" who has always stressed that his rule is based on a general consensus. Gadhafi didn't even assume the title of president or a general's rank after staging his coup d'etat in 1969.

Tens of thousands of Bahrainis have poured into the streets of Manama to stage the largest rally in more than a week of protests against the kingdom's royal rule.

The protesters joined the funeral of a slain Shia protester on Tuesday in a mass rally dubbed "the march of loyalty to martyrs."

They marched toward Pearl Square, the focal point of pro-democracy protests in the country, and called for the government's downfall before any talks could be held with the ruler ship.

'Imam Moussa al-Sadr never left Libya'

Imam Moussa al-Sadr went missing while on an official visit to Libya in 1978.
An expert says that the missing Lebanese Shia leader Imam Moussa al-Sadr may be still alive given Tripoli's confession that he never left Libya, where he went missing in the 1970s.

In an interview with Press TV on Tuesday, political analyst Roula Talj from Beirut said the son of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi had denied previous allegations that the visiting Lebanese leader had left for Italy.

"He did not admit that Imam Moussa al-Sadr was alive but … told me that they [Moussa al-Sadr and his companions] never left Libya," Talj quoted Seif al-Islam Gaddafi as saying.

"And that all the allegations about them being in Italy were wrong," she added.

"From my own analysis and people's reaction to this, I believe he is still alive," the expert said in response to a question on the possibility of Sadr's livelihood.

It is widely believed in Lebanon that Imam Moussa al-Sadr, the founder of the Lebanon's Amal movement, was kidnapped on the orders of senior Libyan officials while on an official trip to Libya in August 1978.

Algeria repeals emergency law

Scrapping the draconian law to placate growing discontent had been a major demand made by the opposition parties.

Algeria's cabinet has adopted an order to lift a 19-year-old state of emergency in a concession designed to avoid the tide of uprisings sweeping the Arab world, but protesters said the measure did not go far enough.

A draft law approved by the cabinet would repeal the emergency law as soon as it is published in the government's official journal, the official Algerie Presse Service reported on Wednesday.

Ending the emergency powers was one of the demands voiced by opposition groups which have been staging weekly protests in the Algerian capital that sought to emulate uprisings in Egypt and neighbouring Tunisia.

"The lifting of the state of emergency is still positive but it's not enough," Mustafa Bouchachi, chairman of the Algerian Human Rights League and one of the organisers of the protests, said on Tuesday.

"We need a real opening up for political, media and social activities so that the people can experience democracy for
themselves," he told the Reuters news agency.

The emergency measures, long lambasted by international human rights groups, have barred peaceful protests, limited constitutionally granted political freedoms and allowed for what many described as arbitrary detentions.

TEHRAN, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said Tuesday that the prospects of "strategic treaty" between the U.S. and Afghanistan will jeopardize Afghan peace and will make the situation more complicated, the official IRNA news agency reported.

Mehmanparast said the Islamic Republic is concerned about peace, stability and security in the region, adding that signing strategic pact with the U.S. will jeopardize the trend of peace and stability in Afghanistan and the entire region, according to the report.

He expressed hope that the "strategic treaty" between Afghanistan and the U.S. would not be signed.
