MAJ GEN JP SINGH, ADDITIONAL DIRECTOR GENERAL (MOVES) VISITS EMBARKATION HEAD QUARTERS KOLKATA

Kolkata: 27 Aug 2010

Maj. Gen JP Singh, Additional Director General (Mov) visited the Kolkata based Embarkation Headquarters today on his two day visit to the city. The Embarkation Headquarters in Kolkata is a triservices organisation and is responsible for movement of Military personnel, stores, equipment, animals by Rail, Air and Sea in the Eastern part of the country.

It may be noted that on any given day, over a lakh armed forces personnel transit from one place to another either on posting, leave or temporary duties. The armed forces equipment is also required to be transported from one place to another in routine course of the duty. During exercises and operations the quantum of the wherewithal to be transported increases drastically. The Embarkation Headquarters Kolkata ensures all these, efficiently and effectively. They are responsible, at times, for the movement of entire strike corps, as and when the need arises.

The Embarkation Headquarters maintains various Movement control offices (MCOs) and Sainik Aram Griha for servicemen and their families travelling by railways. It also operates the flight through civil airlines such as Air India for troops posted to Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram and South Assam. This Headquarters also looks after the movement of personnel and transportation of goods and Equipment to Andaman Island.

According to Maj. Gen JP Singh "We are the biggest hospitality sector for the armed forces. My team is ensuring that all our service men travel with reservations, comfortably to their intended destinations. This will have a morale boosting effect and therefore our effort is to have zero error and full support approach towards every serviceman traveling".
