Incidents of gang rapes are increasing alarmingly; Acting Secretary General blames government for their failure to protect women from physical torture
SATURDAY, 01ST AUGUST, 2015
Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 1st August, 2015 protesting, condemning and expressing deep concern over several incidents of gang rapes of working women, college students, housewives and teenage girls in Kanaighat and various other places of the Sylhet city in recent times.
"I am vehemently protesting, condemning and expressing deep concern over several incidents of gang rapes in the country in recent times. These brutal incidents are repeatedly taken place as there is no rule of law and the existing culture of impunity. Though, the Prime Minister, subservient leader of the opposition and former Prime Minister are ladies, even though such incident of torture on women are not only violation of human rights but also shameful for the countrymen. The law enforcement bodies are paid with public taxes but their failures to maintain law and order and to protect women are very disappointing.
Some miscreants had picked up a woman belong to fisherman class, named Farida Begum in Kanaighat of Sylhet and carried out brutal torture on her. Her scattered dead body was found hanging two days later in the abandoned toilet of a neighboring house. Awami League government is chanting useless slogan of making the country a lower middle income state, but they have failed to protect women dignity. They are providing facilities and excessive privileges to the law enforcers just to secure their office but those forces played no substantial role to protect women honor. They are arresting innocent opposition activists and making them crippled by conducting inhuman torture but regrettably they do nothing to arrest the rapists despite knowing that all the rogues and miscreants are nakedly sheltered and backed by the ruling party.
Another sales girl became victim of gang rape on last 30th July in the capital and now she is undergoing treatment in the one stop crisis center of the Dhaka Medical College. Earlier, in past two months, a tribal lady had been gang raped in Kuril, another house wife in Rampura, female student in Lalbag and another wife in Sutrapur. Almost in everyday, women and children are becoming the victim of such brutalities. Surprisingly, the organizations who usually voice for women rights are silent in this regard. The government which fails to protect women dignity, they should not utter word about the so called development. They should be alert on time otherwise none can save this government from the massive resentment.
