THE MSA-SOUTHEASTERN CONFERENCE
Duke University, Feb 18-20, 2011

Assalaamu Alaikum (Greetings of Peace):

For some time now I've been lamenting the fact that on many of the major human rights issues of the day that challenge Muslims in America and abroad, the Muslim Students Association, and a host of other major Muslim organizations in the U.S., have been largely absent from the battlefield.

MSA-National, and the majority of MSAs around the nation that I'm familiar with, have generally been unwilling to organize Muslim youth and engage the powers-that-be in the type of pushback needed to effectively defend the image of Islam and committed Muslims, and to bring to light the terrible injustices being committed against innocent Muslims in the name of "national security"  and a "war on terrorism."

There have been a few exceptions from time to time. One such exception is the MSA Southeast Regional Conference about to convene at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina this coming weekend. There will be an array of thought-provoking speakers and program agendas that are expected to educate and inspire everyone who attends. The conference theme will be, "ISLAM: PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE."

Insha'Allah, I will be among the speakers participating in this weekend's program at Duke. I've also been asked (and accepted) to deliver the Friday Khutbah at the Islamic Center of Morrisville - located at 126 Morrisvile Square Way, Morrisville, NC. My address will be titled: The Challenges Facing Muslims in America.

Please see the link below for additional information, and help pass the word on this very important effort being undertaken by Muslim students in the southeast corridor of the U.S. My congratulations to them!
